My name is Sophia Emmanuel. I love creating content that helps people prioritize scalp care. Problems such as hair loss, dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, itching and irritation are triggered several ways, one way is improper scalp care.

Scalp care should be a fundamental part of your hair care routine. Did you know it is safe for you to shampoo your hair as often as once a week if you are a Black women or a person of color with textured hair?

A Myth: Shampooing your hair often causes dry hair and scalp.

As black people, we are taught that shampooing our hair often causes dry hair and scalp. This is not true. If you use a pH balanced shampoo and a conditioner that moisturizes and softens your hair, it is safe to shampoo your hair on a weekly basis. If you are active and sweat in your scalp, you may shampoo your hair twice a week to keep your hair and scalp clean.

How does waiting too long to shampoo your hair stress your hair follicles?

Dirt, bacteria, dead skin cells, sebum, and product buildup accumulate on your scalp. This encourages yeast to thrive on your scalp which leads to dandruff, itchy scalp, and inflammation. The stress takes place when you feel discomfort on the scalp. Burning, tingling, and excessive itching are a few examples.

Ever wonder why you have braids, extensions, or other protective hairstyles and you have an uncontrollable itch? It is likely inflammation present on the scalp, in which case shampooing weekly and reducing these hairstyles helps.

I created the Soothe Scalp Treatment to help calm itching, reduce dandruff, and create a healthy environment for your hair to grow.
